If you’re ever stuck in a Windows 10 or 8.1 installation and want to roll it down to a lower level, there’s a trick you can use that’s been around for years. This is called “remote Ford.” First, open the Start menu and type “cmd” (without the quotes). Then type “netstat -a” to see what ports are open on your computer. If they’re all closed, then your computer is locked down and you can’t roll down the windows. If they’re open, then your computer is connected to the internet and you can do this without having to be on the same network as your computer. To do this, first find out what version of Windows 10 or 8.1 your computer is running. To do this, type “netstat -a” and look for the line that says “ports opened: [number]”. If it says “10”, then your computer is running Windows 10 or 8.1; if it says “8”, then your computer is running Windows 8.1 or earlier. If it doesn’t say anything, then your computer isn’t running any versions of Windows 10 or 8.1 and you can roll down windows using remote Ford without any problems.
